RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – The Republic of Zambia today reaffirmed its position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity with a Moroccan Sahara. This was reported in a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that Zambia also welcomed the adoption, on October 31, 2025, of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, “which enshrines, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for reaching a political solution to the Sahara dispute.” This position was expressed in a joint statement released in Rabat at the end of talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Zambian counterpart, Mulambo Haimbe, on a working visit to the Kingdom.
Haimbe also expressed his country’s support for the United Nations’ efforts to reach a resolution to this regional dispute, as well as for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, considering it the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to the issue. The Zambian diplomat emphasized that this initiative constitutes a pragmatic and constructive basis for achieving a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution. For his part, the Rabat statement further specifies, Bourita welcomed “the positive evolution of relations between the two sister countries in recent years,” particularly facilitated by the opening, in October 2020, of the Zambian Embassy in Rabat and the Zambian Consulate General in Laayoune.
