Real Madrid, Valverde: “No one hit me, the situation we’re going through hurts me”

MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – An altercation, no foul play. This is according to Federico Valverde, the Real Madrid midfielder, who ended up in the hospital yesterday after an altercation in the Valdebebas dressing room, specifically, according to the Spanish press, a brawl with Frenchman Tchoaumeni.

The club has certainly opened disciplinary proceedings against both players, and it’s equally certain that, due to a head injury, the Uruguayan will be out for 10-14 days and will therefore miss Sunday’s El Clasico away to Barcelona (his teammate is also likely to be excluded).

“Yesterday I had an altercation with a teammate during training, the fatigue from the competition and the frustration caused everything to be blown out of proportion,” Valverde wrote on social media, referring to Wednesday’s first verbal altercation. “In a normal dressing room, these things can happen and are resolved internally without becoming public. Evidently someone was quick to spread the story, and in a titleless season where Real Madrid is always in the spotlight, everything is amplified.”

“Today,” the player continued, referring to Thursday’s events, “we had another disagreement. During the argument, I accidentally hit a table, resulting in a small cut on my forehead that required a routine hospital visit. At no point did my teammate hit me, nor did I hit him, although I understand it might be easier to believe there was a fight or that it was intentional, but that wasn’t the case. I think the anger over the situation, the frustration at seeing some of us, despite giving our all, struggling at the end of this season, pushed me to argue with a teammate. I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry because the situation hurts me, the moment we’re living hurts me. Real Madrid is one of the most important things in my life, and I can’t remain indifferent. The result is a series of events that culminate in a senseless brawl, damaging my image and fueling the suspicion that they’re making it all up, adding fuel to the fire of an incident”.
