TUNIS (TUNISIA) (ITALPRESS) – There are over a thousand Italian companies operating in Tunisia across various sectors, while innovation and startups “can open up new opportunities for collaboration” between the two countries. This was stated by the Italian Ambassador to Tunis, Alessandro Prunas, in an interview with the Italpress agency on the sidelines of Big Tech Africa.
The event, dedicated to technology, innovation, and investment in Africa, is scheduled for October 13 and 14 at the Cité de la Culture in Tunis. “Innovation is our future, and in the Mediterranean region, we must build that future together,” Prunas affirmed, noting that “Tunisia has a very interesting startup and innovation ecosystem—and, of course, so do we.” For this reason, he added, “expanding the scope through exchanges between our two countries can only be mutually beneficial.”
The ambassador highlighted the long-standing and diverse presence of Italian companies in Tunisia, while also touching upon the evolution of production sectors. “There is a strong textile component, as it was traditionally a driving force; today, the textile sector may be experiencing a slowdown, while other sectors are becoming increasingly important,” he observed. Finally, Prunas emphasized the value of Tunisian expertise beyond manufacturing.
“Tunisia has manufacturing capacity, but it is much more than that; Tunisia also possesses talent—a wealth of intellectual capital—that Italy can certainly count on,” he declared, adding that Tunisia can also rely on Italy, with the goal of “forging a partnership that benefits everyone.” According to Prunas, the geographical proximity and historical ties between Tunisia and Italy foster ongoing collaboration aimed at addressing shared challenges and identifying joint solutions across various sectors. “The ties are historic,” Prunas stated.
“It is therefore our duty to work together to find mutually agreeable solutions in all areas,” he added. The ambassador clarified that cooperation between the two countries is not limited to technology and innovation—the focus of today’s event—but extends to every aspect of their bilateral relations.
“While we are focusing on innovation today, this approach applies equally to any other field,” he remarked. During the interview, Prunas also highlighted the role of Italian companies operating in Tunisia and the importance of leveraging the expertise of both nations through mutually beneficial exchanges and partnerships. Italy’s participation in Big Tech Africa is part of this cooperative framework, aiming to facilitate connections among companies, startups, institutions, and stakeholders from both innovation ecosystems.
