RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – Young people—often from highly vulnerable backgrounds—are building a path toward training, independence, and a future through the circus. This is the story of the École Nationale de Cirque Shems’y in Salé, just outside Rabat, supported by the Italian Embassy in Morocco and the Italian Cultural Institute as part of a collaboration with the Sarabanda Association from Genoa.
Established by the Moroccan association AMESIP, the school uses acrobatics, juggling, and social theater as tools for inclusion and vocational training, guiding students toward entry into the performing arts world. Since February, Italian artist and director Boris Vecchio, from Sarabanda, has been working with the students and Moroccan instructors. Recently, students in their third and final year staged “Devenir,” the performance marking the conclusion of their studies and their transition into the professional world.
The performance was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Morocco, Pasquale Salzano, who had previously met the young people in June and publicly pledged to continue supporting their journey. “In June, we said we would stand by their side. We continue to do so, with conviction. Because of their talent, their commitment, and their strength. And because of the strength of a project that offers opportunities, dignity, and a future,” Salzano wrote on social media.
