BATOR (MONGOLIA) (ITALPRESS) – Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, presented the main characteristics of Egypt’s water system and the pillars of the second-generation Water System 2.0, speaking at COP17 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, currently underway in Mongolia.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Sewilam delivered a conference titled “Innovations in Water Resources Management,” highlighting the challenges of limited resources and growing demand for water.
Priorities outlined include increasing water use efficiency, reusing agricultural wastewater, and maximizing the use of available resources. The minister also outlined efforts to modernize water infrastructure and introduce advanced technologies, including satellite imagery and drones for monitoring and data collection.
Among the projects presented, the “digital twin” of the Ismailia Canal represents a step toward digital water resource management. Sewilam also emphasized the importance of cooperation with Nile Basin countries and African states, as well as interventions for the treatment and reuse of agricultural wastewater and coastal protection through nature-based solutions.
The minister finally reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to integrating modern infrastructure, technology, water reuse, nature-based solutions, governance, and community participation to ensure the sustainability of water resources and support the country’s development.
