Malta, Metsola joins Opposition leader in electoral campaign push

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has joined forces with Opposition leader Alex Borg on the campaign trail ahead of Malta’s general elections on May 30.

The two were seen canvassing voters together in Mellieħa in the north of the country, marking a notable moment in the second week of the Nationalist Party’s electoral campaign.

In a social media post, Metsola shared a video of the visit, showing the pair greeting residents and engaging with locals. The post was captioned in Maltese, highlighting their presence among the community.

Metsola’s appearance alongside Borg is being viewed as a significant boost for the Nationalist Party, reinforcing its efforts to gain momentum in key districts.

Although long considered a potential candidate for party leadership in past years, Metsola had opted to remain in her European role following leadership changes within the party.

Her direct involvement in the local campaign now signals a strong show of support for Borg, who is contesting the 12th District, including Mellieħa, as well as Gozo.

The Nationalist Party has intensified its campaign in recent days, unveiling proposals aimed at reducing electricity bills, a fuel hub 22 km off the Maltese coast, increasing student stipends, and investing in energy and healthcare infrastructure.
