ROME (ITALPRESS) – A brief moment of tension at the end of the Spain-Portugal match, involving Rodri and Bernardo Silva, teammates until a few weeks ago at Manchester City.
The incident arose after an attacking move by Portugal: Bernardo Silva headed a cross into the penalty area, but it failed to hit the target. Rodri responded by celebrating his former teammate’s error, a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed and prompted an immediate reaction from the Portuguese midfielder. Bernardo approached the Spanish midfielder to express his displeasure.
Rodri immediately realized he had gone too far and, on the pitch, promptly apologized. He reiterated this clarification to reporters after the match. “I think I’ve said this before: I made a mistake because I celebrated after his mistake. I apologized immediately, but that’s the end of the matter. We have the mutual respect we’ve always had, and that’s all there is to it,” Rodri declared in the mixed zone.
