TRIPOLI (LIBYA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The United Nations Security Council has welcomed the signing of the “4+4” agreement—a pact reached by Libyan parties to support the political process—describing it as “an important step toward free, fair, and inclusive national elections” and the unification of Libyan institutions.
According to a press statement read by French representative Jerome Bonnafont, the Council’s rotating president, members commended the Libyan parties for their constructive engagement and emphasized the importance of all parties supporting the agreement. They also reiterated their support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and Envoy Hanna Tetteh, urging the Libyan parties to fully participate in her efforts.
The Council called for further steps to implement the unified expenditure framework for 2026 and stressed the importance of making progress toward unifying all institutions—including military and security bodies—and establishing a unified executive. Members reaffirmed their support for Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and underscored the need to end external interference.
