ROME (ITALPRESS/MNA) – A total blackout has hit the Libyan capital, plunging the city and its outskirts into darkness and bringing daily life and activities to a standstill, as the energy crisis worsens despite government assurances that it will be resolved imminently.
According to residents and local sources, the outage has paralyzed the city, with people forced to rely on private generators amid a fuel shortage that has already caused long queues at petrol stations.
The Government of National Unity had promised to resolve the crisis within a few days, but the total blackout demonstrates that the power grid remains fragile, with demand far exceeding generating capacity due to outdated infrastructure and a lack of maintenance.
Citizens have staged protests on several occasions in recent weeks over the frequent power outages, and the current situation risks fueling further public discontent in a country already battered by years of conflict and political instability.
