ROME (ITALPRESS/MNA) – In southern Lebanon, Israeli attacks have continued since last night on Nabatiyeh el-Faouqa and the Ali Taher Heights, a strategic location in the Nabatiyeh district overlooking the region. The Lebanese newspaper L’Orient le jour reports this. Israelis claim that the Lebanese militia Hezbollah has an underground base beneath these heights.
Airstrikes also hit Mansouri and Beit el-Sayad in the Tyre district, Dohat Kfarremmane in the Nabatiyeh district, and Qantara in the Marjeyoun district.
In the Bint Jbeil district, the newspaper continues, Israel carried out four bombing operations in Srebbine and another in Baraachit, while the nearby village of Haddatha was hit by artillery fire.
“Lebanon’s stability is essential for the stability of the region and Europe,” and “any destabilization of the country would have far-reaching repercussions.” Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made this statement in Athens, after meeting with his Greek counterpart Konstantinos Tasoulas, as reported by the state-run NNA news agency. Aoun thanked Tasoulas for the warm welcome and for his support for Lebanon in the political, humanitarian, and military spheres, and emphasized the desire to strengthen relations between the two countries in all areas, in the common interest.
The Lebanese president indicated that Lebanon counts on the support of its friends, particularly Greece, and further stated that “Lebanon and its people are tired of wars” and that the goal of negotiations with Israel is to end the state of hostilities. Aoun recalled that the framework agreement was signed under American auspices and called on both parties to fully implement it, without exceptions.
“It is time for Lebanon to finally live in peace,” he insisted, reiterating the country’s determination to end the state of hostilities and stressing that the solution lies in diplomacy, not war.
