CAIRO (EGYPT) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Twenty-one people were killed and several others injured when a bus overturned this morning on the road between Dahab and Nuweiba, in Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate.
According to Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, the ministry’s central operations room was activated immediately after the accident was reported, and 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to provide first aid and transport the injured to healthcare facilities.
Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar ordered the alert level to be raised and emergency services and medical teams to be fully mobilized. He also instructed Ahmed El Sobky, chairman of the Healthcare Authority, to ensure that the injured receive the highest level of medical care and that the necessary medicines and medical supplies are available, in coordination with the relevant authorities in South Sinai.
Ten of the victims were Jordanians, according to Jordanian broadcaster Al-Mamlaka, citing Jordanian and Egyptian sources. The bus, which had departed from Cairo and was bound for Amman, was carrying 43 people, including 22 Jordanians.
