ZAGREB (CROATIA) (ITALPRESS) – Croatia’s dramatic World Cup elimination, sealed by a goal disallowed by semi-automated offside technology by the narrowest of margins, has proven difficult to accept. The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) appears ready to begin a new cycle by turning to a familiar face.
Former national team head coach Slaven Bilic has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Zlatko Dalic, whose contract is set to expire. With Dalic also attracting several attractive offers from club football, a contract extension now appears unlikely following Croatia’s World Cup exit against Portugal.
According to Sportske Novosti, Bilic is prepared to return to the position he left in 2012. Another name under consideration is former Croatia international Ivica Olic.
The Croatian Football Federation has reportedly been working on Dalic’s successor since before the World Cup and, according to local media, consultations with senior players have produced positive feedback regarding Bilic’s possible return. Olic, meanwhile, could be appointed head coach of Croatia’s Under-21 national team.
