MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – “They stole seven league titles from us? We all know what happened for 20 years. There are certainly things we don’t know, and it seems incredible that only Real Madrid wants to defend the rule of law in football.” Predictably, Alvaro Arbeloa sides with Florentino Perez, the protagonist of a marathon press conference yesterday in which, among other things, he brought up the Negreira case again and spoke of seven league titles Real Madrid missed out on through no fault of his own.
“Any Madrid fan who heard the president yesterday also agrees that the club is treated differently than other clubs. Would I vote for Perez? I knew Real Madrid without Florentino and I remember what it was like. He and Santiago Bernabeu are the two most influential people in Real Madrid’s history. And if anyone can turn this situation around, it’s Florentino.”
Arbeloa now asks the team to “prove in these last three games that we deserve this shirt, the self-demand is enormous. Losing hurts, much more than at any other club. But I’m surprised to hear we’ve hit rock bottom. So what have the other clubs hit? It’s not like we haven’t won anything for 50 years… And I wouldn’t take it for granted that Real Madrid won’t win anything next season either.”
