ALGIERS (ALGERIA) (ITALPRESS) – Algeria is developing a national tool to detect, measure and reduce methane emissions, as part of the country’s international commitments to cut emissions and with the aim of preserving energy resources and strengthening export competitiveness. The measure was discussed at a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.
The new tool aims to strengthen methane emissions monitoring, improve measurement and promote reductions, while also enhancing coordination among the various sectors involved. According to the Algerian government, curbing methane emissions is a strategic priority in light of Algeria’s international climate commitments, but also in terms of protecting the country’s energy resources and maintaining the competitiveness of its exports on international markets.
The initiative also seeks to support domestic businesses in adapting to international requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to improve the environmental performance of the Algerian economy.
During the meeting, measures were also discussed to prepare for the start of construction work on the railway line towards Tamanrasset, with the aim of completing the project by the end of 2028.
