VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Public spending in Malta increased by 14.5% in the first three months of the year, reaching a total of €2.34 billion. The €296.3 million spent between January and March represents 86% of the maximum allowable spending increase for the full year, according to calculations by the Ministry of Finance.
Malta’s Fiscal Council has warned that to meet the target, spending growth will need to slow significantly, reaching around 0.7% year-on-year for the remainder of 2026.
The body also emphasized that public revenues will need to perform “significantly better than expected” to fully offset the spending increase.
