MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said there is “no information” indicating Moroccan involvement in the origins of the crisis triggered by the mass arrival of around 80,000 migrants in Ceuta at the end of July. In an interview with radio station Cadena SER, Sánchez ruled out the existence of information from Spanish security forces or intelligence services that would raise doubts about Rabat’s role.
The prime minister instead defended cooperation with Morocco in managing the migration emergency, describing it as “frankly positive” and stressing that Rabat offered “immediate cooperation” when the crisis began.
Sánchez acknowledged, however, that authorities are still investigating the causes of the influx and pointed to the spread of hoaxes and disinformation on social media as possible factors, along with the actions of criminal organisations that may have taken advantage of the situation.
According to the prime minister, the spread of false information contributed to fuelling the crisis. Sánchez finally reiterated the need to maintain cooperation with Rabat to address migratory pressure and ensure the security of the Ceuta border.
