BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Alessandro Bastoni remains the main target, but Barcelona are also considering a plan B. According to “Sport,” sporting director Deco is reportedly working on several fronts. While there’s a basic agreement with the Nerazzurri center-back, who’s ready to join the Blaugrana, there’s also the matter of Inter’s value at €70 million.
This is far from what Barça can afford, which is why they’re considering Cristian Romero, a 28-year-old Argentine defender formerly of Genoa and Atalanta, now at Tottenham. Romero is right-footed, unlike Bastoni, but possesses the qualities Flick and Deco are looking for to bolster their defense: experience, leadership, pace, a strong one-on-one player and aggressive marking.
The Blaugrana have reportedly already begun exploring the deal, which would be more affordable, especially if Spurs fail to save the club. Other alternatives on the table include Nico Schlotterbeck, who has just renewed his contract with Borussia Dortmund, and Jon Martin, a 20-year-old Real Sociedad centre-back valued at around €20 million, who, however, would not guarantee the same impact as Bastoni or Romero in the short term.
