VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Prime Minister Robert Abela has described the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran as “an encouraging development,” highlighting its potential to ease tensions in the region.
In a statement shared on social media, Abela said the agreement provides “a moment of respite and hope” for people affected by ongoing instability.
He reaffirmed Malta’s long-standing position in favour of diplomacy, emphasising the country’s commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and stability at every opportunity.
The ceasefire, agreed upon by both parties, is set to last for a period of two weeks, offering a temporary pause in hostilities.
As part of the conditions, the United States is pushing for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that has been impacted by the tensions.
Abela’s remarks reflect Malta’s broader foreign policy stance, which consistently supports diplomatic solutions over conflict.
