Newcastle CEO Hopkinson: “Howe’s future? We’ll see at the end of the season”

NEWCASTLE (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Eddie Howe’s job is at risk, though not immediately. The manager who led Newcastle to the Champions League twice and won the League Cup last season, ending a 70-year wait, is going through a difficult period. The derby defeat to Sunderland left the team in 12th place, and European qualification appears difficult even though seventh place is only four points away.

“We’re not considering a change of manager at the moment,” said Newcastle’s CEO, David Hopkinson. But I don’t have a position on his future. I can say that the derby defeat hurt. We take it very seriously. We don’t think it’s just three points. It had a huge impact.”

The director met with Howe. “Eddie is our manager. I expect a great end to the season, and we’ll talk about the future at the right time. Now we’re focused on this season.” Regarding the transfer market and rumours about players like Tonali, Hopkinson recalls Isak’s sale to Liverpool for £125 million last summer: “If a situation similar to Isak’s arises again, any player under contract will only leave on our terms.”
