MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – A decade-long relationship has come to an end. Through their official channels, both Atlético Madrid and Orlando City have announced the transfer of Antoine Griezmann to the United States. The 2018 World Cup winner, long sought after by the American club, has signed a contract valid through the 2027-28 season, with an option for the following year, and will join the team as a Designated Player when the Major League Soccer transfer window opens in July. “Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a historic moment not only for our club, but also for our city, our fans, and Major League Soccer,” said Mark Wilf, owner and president of Orlando City. “I’m delighted with this new adventure. I immediately sensed the club’s strong ambitions. I can’t wait to meet the fans and for Orlando to become my new home,” said the 35-year-old. For his part, Atlético bids farewell to their all-time leading scorer (211 goals), as well as the fourth-most appearance-making player in the club’s history (488).
With the Colchoneros, where he joined in 2014 from Real Sociedad, Griezmann won the Spanish Super Cup in 2014, the Europa League in 2018, and the UEFA Super Cup that same year. He also had a brief stint at Barcelona between 2019 and 2021, before returning to Atlético.
