ROME (ITALPRESS) – Flamengo coach Filipe Luis, in charge since September 2024, was dismissed overnight in Italy. Despite the Brazilian club qualifying for the Rio de Janeiro championship final with a resounding 8-0 victory over Madureira at the Maracana Stadium (3-0 in the first leg), the management has been unsparing in its criticism of the former Brazilian international (44 appearances, 2 goals).
According to ESPN Brazil, sporting director José Boto informed Luis immediately after the post-match press conference. The club then quickly published an official statement on its website.
At 40, the former full-back, who played for Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, and Flamengo, had faced criticism after the Rio club’s difficult start to the season. With Flamengo, Filipe Luis won five trophies, including the Brazilian championship and the 2025 Copa Libertadores.
