MEXICO CITY (MEXICO) (ITALPRESS) – “There are all the guarantees and no risks,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, regarding the doubts that have arisen over the regular holding of the World Cup following the recent events in the Central American country.
The state of alert, issued on Sunday, February 22, following the killing of “El Mencho,” one of the most bloodthirsty drug traffickers in the country’s history, has affected 20 Mexican states, including Guadalajara and Jalisco, host cities for the playoffs and several World Cup matches.
According to ESPN, FIFA has requested a report from its office in Mexico regarding the events in the country to learn the details and circumstances of the case. The international federation’s Mexican headquarters has therefore forwarded all documents regarding the current situation to its headquarters in Zurich to determine the next steps.
So far, there have been no changes in the world football landscape, which sees Mexico both as the host of the intercontinental play-offs that will take place in March, and as the host country of thirteen World Cup matches divided between the cities of Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City, where the opening match between the hosts and South Africa will take place.
