VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Gozitan businessman Joseph Portelli, president of Maltese Premier League side Ħamrun Spartans is in advanced talks to acquire Italian Serie D club Nocerina, based in the Campania region.
Portelli has long made public his ambition to buy an Italian football club and has been linked with several teams in recent months.
Earlier this month, the Times of Malta reported that Portelli had submitted a bid to purchase Serie D club Siena Calcio.
That move, however, failed to materialise after Siena owner Jonas Bodin made it clear he was not interested in selling the club.
Siena had received an offer of €1.3 million from the J.P. Portelli Group to take over the club, but the bid was rejected by the club’s top officials.
Despite the setback, Portelli appears undeterred in his pursuit of owning an Italian side. Discussions are now at an advanced stage for the takeover of Nocerina, marking the businessman’s latest attempt to enter Italian football.
