MARRAKECH (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – The 19th edition of the World Water Congress opened on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Marrakech under the theme “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation.” Co-organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Water and the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), the event, running until December 5, offers a major platform to explore innovative solutions, advanced strategies and adaptive approaches for the sustainable management of water resources in a rapidly shifting global context.
The congress brings together experts, researchers, policymakers, civil society representatives and private-sector stakeholders to share knowledge, present cutting-edge research, build partnerships and develop concrete solutions to the complex challenges related to water governance, security and sustainability. The gathering also serves as an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s expertise in water management, particularly in arid environments, in desalination and in the development of non-conventional water resources. By focusing on innovation, adaptability to environmental, social and economic changes, and the need to strengthen the resilience of water infrastructure, this edition aims to identify durable solutions for water management in an ever-changing world.
The Congress programme includes a ministerial roundtable, four high-level panels, more than 140 technical sessions led by international experts, several side events offering topic-focused sessions that explore various issues in depth, and a large exhibition area showcasing the most innovative technologies and projects in the water sector. The proceedings will conclude with the Marrakech Declaration, a collective call bringing together policymakers, scientists and industry professionals to reinforce the link between science, policy and action, and to accelerate global mobilisation for the protection of water resources.
