Newcastle’s complaint: “Our fans were mistreated in Marseille”

NEWCASTLE (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – “Unacceptable treatment, with our fans indiscriminately attacked.” This is the complaint from Newcastle, two days after last Tuesday’s Champions League match at the Velodrome in Marseille. Coach De Zerbi’s Marseille won 2-1 against Tonali’s team, but the English club, regardless of the result on the pitch, has decided to address the French evening with an official protest to UEFA.

The Marseille security service was targeted during the exit of visiting fans: “The officers used unnecessary and disproportionate force, using pepper spray and batons, all under the eyes of Newcastle management and staff. The fans who left the stadium rightly shared their discomfort, frustration, and anger with our staff, and we subsequently received deeply troubling testimonies from fans present. We strongly condemn the treatment of our fans by the French police. We will therefore ask UEFA, Marseille, and the local authorities to formally investigate the incident to ensure this behavior is not repeated.”
