VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRSS/MNA) – The Maltese Parliament convened an emergency session on Thursday following the acquittal of Maltese businessman Yorgen Fenech on charges of commissioning the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Prime Minister Robert Abela urged caution and respect for the ongoing legal proceedings, emphasizing that investigators must be able to carry out their work without political pressure.
Opposition leader Alex Borg accused Abela of calling for early elections in anticipation of the political repercussions of the verdict.
Abela responded to Borg’s “hasty” statements, accusing the opposition leader of turning the affair into a partisan political exercise.
