VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg has condemned the conduct of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir toward activists aboard the Global Sumud flotilla, calling his actions “deeply disturbing and unacceptable.”
The criticism follows the circulation of footage on social media showing dozens of activists being detained on a military vessel and later inside an Israeli detention facility, while the Israeli national anthem played in the background.
In a statement posted on X, Borg said Malta joined growing international condemnation of Ben-Gvir’s actions, noting that they had also been criticised by members of Israel’s own government.
“Such actions are inconsistent with democratic norms and fundamental values of human dignity,” Borg wrote.
He also called for the immediate release of those detained and urged that they be treated in line with international standards.
