LIVERPOOL (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Good news for Liverpool on the injury front. Giovanni Leoni and Federico Chiesa are close to returning to the squad: both, according to Andoni Iraola’s explanation in a press conference, are expected to return to training with their teammates during the upcoming international break.
Leoni has been sidelined for almost a year after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (he’s on the Champions League list), while Chiesa (not on the Champions League list) is struggling with a muscle problem he picked up last month.
“Giovanni Leoni should be next to return. The plan is to start training with the group during the international break,” Iraola explained. Regarding Chiesa’s return, he added: “I think Fede will also be ready around that time.” Joe Gomez, who has yet to play a match this season due to a muscle problem he sustained during the summer tour of the United States, is closest to a return. “Joe will likely start training with us next week. His recovery has proceeded normally and is as expected for this type of injury. I hope to have him available before the break,” the coach said. The timing of Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike’s return, both of whom are dealing with longer-term injuries, remains more uncertain. “Conor will probably return later, but Hugo, especially, will need more time,” Iraola concluded.
