ROME (ITALPRESS) – Gianni Infantino can count on the support of Arab football ahead of the March 18 election in Rabat, where he will seek to remain at the helm of FIFA.
At a meeting in Jeddah, the UAFA – the Union of Arab Football Associations, which comprises 22 members across Asia and Africa – reaffirmed “its support and appreciation, for the next term, for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who over the course of more than a decade has strengthened the unity of the global football community, developed and expanded the game, and broadened its global reach in a way that serves the interests of all stakeholders and meets the aspirations of players and fans around the world,” according to a statement.
While the Swiss football official already knew he could count on Africa’s backing, the position taken by the Union of Arab Football Associations also provides him with important support in Asia, where the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has openly distanced itself from FIFA’s current leadership.
