ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Libyan government’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, based in Benghazi (East), has reported a serious act of sabotage against the electricity grid after a citizen illegally entered an 11-kV distribution substation in the Bu Attni neighborhood, causing a blackout at 14 secondary substations and power outages in several areas of the city.
According to the ministry’s official statement posted on Facebook, the man entered the facility through the cable duct, bypassing the padlocked main gate, and lifted the switches, putting his life at risk and causing a serious electrical incident.
The ministry emphasized that such acts are not simple violations, but extremely dangerous actions that threaten lives and damage infrastructure, and warned that those responsible will be prosecuted.
The incident comes at a time when Libya is facing a serious energy crisis.
