VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The US Embassy in Malta celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding at a reception attended by President Myriam Spiteri Debono, government officials, business leaders, academics, cultural figures and other guests.
Addressing the event, US Ambassador Somers Farkas said the Freedom 250 celebrations were about honouring the past while investing in the future.
The embassy highlighted recent milestones in bilateral relations, including Malta’s signing of the Artemis Accords, a government AI literacy agreement with Microsoft and OpenAI, and the launch of direct flights between Malta and New York.
It also cited Malta’s participation in an international maritime registry aimed at tackling sanctions evasion and other illegal activities, as well as the establishment of the Friends of Malta Congressional Caucus.
The embassy said the developments reflected growing professional, educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Farkas praised US President Donald Trump’s “results-driven approach to diplomacy”, saying it strengthened security, expanded economic opportunities and fostered innovation and international partnerships.
She reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to advancing freedom, prosperity and innovation while strengthening its long-standing friendship with Malta.
President Spiteri Debono welcomed the progress in bilateral cooperation over the past year and stressed the shared commitment of Malta and the United States to addressing global challenges.
