WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – They are at war, but despite everything Donald Trump has assured that the United States will welcome the Iranian national team for this summer’s World Cup. At least this is the reassurance from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who explained in a post on Instagram:
“Tonight I met with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, to discuss the state of preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, also considering the growing excitement with kickoff scheduled in just 93 days. We also talked about the current situation in Iran and the fact that the Iranian team has qualified to participate in the 2026 World Cup,” Infantino said. “During the discussions, President Trump reiterated that the Iranian team is naturally welcome to compete in the tournament in the United States.”
The announcement from the FIFA president is an important one. He then added: “We all need an event like the World Cup to bring people together now more than ever. I sincerely thank the President of the United States for his support, as it once again shows that football unites the world.”
