Trial over Maradona’s death, the daughter “Doctors manipulated us”

BUENOS AIRES (ARGENTINA) (ITALPRESS) – “It was all a set-up, an act to carry out what they wanted: to isolate Dad in a dark and ugly place.” At the San Isidro courthouse, where the trial for Diego Armando Maradona’s November 2020 death is underway, it is the turn of Gianinna, the youngest daughter had by the former Pibe de Oro from Claudia Villafane.

Between tears and with her voice broken with emotion, Gianinna, 35years old, points her finger mainly at Leopoldo Luque, Maradona’s former personal physician and main defendant. “Even though I did not completely agree with the home hospitalization, I chose to put my trust in them-the reference to the medical team that had been treating the former soccer player-they had been following Dad for a long time and proposed this option to us, they would have fixed that house properly for a real home hospitalization.”

During the hearing, a recording was played of the Nov. 10, 2020 meeting where the decision was made to move Maradona from the Olivos Clinic to the apartment where he later passed away two weeks later.

“It hurts a lot to listen to that conversation, all the things that were promised and then not kept, the things that were assured to us that then did not come true. I feel it was a horrible manipulation, it makes me very angry, I wish I could go back in time and kick them all out.”

Gianinna had visited her father a week before his death. “He was very swollen, you couldn’t even see his eyes, he had a robot voice but they told us that we had to give him his space, that it was part of the recovery process, that dad wanted to be alone”.
