Malta moves closer to recognizing Palestinian State

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela has indicated that the island nation is nearing a decision to officially recognize the State of Palestine, revealing that the criteria for such recognition will soon be met. In a late televised interview on the national station, Abela emphasized that Malta has long sought to ensure fair treatment for Palestine, a position that is widely supported by the Maltese public.

Abela noted that there is a broad consensus in the country regarding recognition of Palestine, and cited Malta’s treatment of Palestinian diplomatic missions as an example of this stance. He pointed out that Palestinian diplomatic representatives in Malta are afforded the same rights and immunities as those from other recognized states, signaling a step closer to formal recognition.
