TUNIS (TUNISIA) (ITALPRESS) – Hervé Renard will lead Tunisia in the upcoming World Cup matches. Moaz Mestiri, spokesperson for the Tunisian Football Federation, confirmed to TAP that an agreement has been reached for the mutual termination of coach Sabri Lamouchi’s contract, with Renard taking over the helm of the Carthage Eagles against Japan and the Netherlands.
The former Parma and Inter midfielder’s entire staff, with the exception of Wahbi Khazri, will also be departing. Renard will begin training with the team today, with a staff he trusts, including Mondher Kebaier, the Federation’s technical director.
The agreement with Renard, Mestiri specified, includes the same financial terms as Lamouchi’s contract; further discussions will then be held regarding the possible continuation of the relationship. Lamouchi thus paid dearly for the heavy defeat in his debut against Sweden (5-1), preceded by two other defeats in friendly matches against Austria (0-1) and Belgium (0-5).
Renard will make his debut on Sunday against Japan, before finishing the group stage with the match against the Netherlands on June 26. The 57-year-old French coach boasts two Africa Cups of Nations won with Zambia (2012) and Ivory Coast (2015) and has already experienced two World Cups as coach with Morocco (2018) and Saudi Arabia (2022), while with the French women’s national team he reached the final of the 2024 Nations League.
