
BOGOTA (Colombia) (ITALPRESS) – Colombia has officially recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, marking a major step change in diplomatic relations between Bogotá and Rabat.
The announcement was made by the Colombian Chancellery at the end of a bilateral meeting between Colombian Vice President José Manuel Restrepo, Foreign Minister Omar Bula and representatives of the government of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The decision fits into the will of the new Colombian executive to revive and strengthen relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, adopting a long-term strategic perspective.
The Chancellery stressed that, with this choice, Colombia intends to “revitalize its relationship with Morocco on the basis of a long-term vision”, believing that bilateral rapprochement can fully serve the interests of the Colombian people.
Bogotá’s new position represents an important evolution of Colombia’s policy on the issue of Western Sahara and further strengthens the international dynamics in support of Moroccan sovereignty over the territory.
The decision also opens a new phase in relations between Colombia and Morocco, with the prospect of strengthening political, economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
