VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta has submitted a request for financial assistance from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) after estimated damage caused by Storm Harry reached €128 million. The storm hit the island for 24 hours in mid-January, particularly affecting the southwestern and southeastern coasts. Extensive damage was also recorded to agricultural land as well as public and private property. According to the Maltese Ministry for EU Funds, the government’s request includes a full and verified damage assessment. Under EUSF rules, countries must record losses exceeding €121 million to be eligible for assistance. The request will now be examined by the European Commission, which will assess compliance with the eligibility criteria and determine the amount of financial assistance.
