VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg today addressed the OSCE Permanent Council, outlining Malta’s key priorities as President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
Speaking firmly against growing rhetoric that threatens human dignity, Borg emphasized Malta’s commitment to combating violence, discrimination, and upholding the core values that unite Europe. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the OSCE and the Council of Europe for the benefit of the wider region.
Malta’s presidency comes at a significant moment, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights. Borg underscored the importance of safeguarding the Convention System and ensuring the protection of fundamental rights, especially for those who are vulnerable or marginalized.
Reaffirming Malta’s unwavering support for Ukraine, Borg highlighted the ongoing humanitarian impact of the war, particularly on children. Malta will organize a High-Level Stocktaking Conference focused on the needs of Ukrainian children.
Youth empowerment will also take center stage during Malta’s presidency. Borg announced a Ministerial Conference on Youth, where young people will actively participate alongside ministers to shape future policies.
