RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – “The United Nations Security Council Resolution establishes the principles and foundations that can lead to a definitive political solution to the Sahara issue, in full respect of Morocco’s legitimate rights. Praise be to God,” declared King Mohammed VI of Morocco in an address to the nation following the UN vote.
“In line with the United Nations Resolution, Morocco will proceed to update and detail its Autonomy Proposal for subsequent submission to the UN,” the King continued, emphasising that as a “realistic and applicable solution,” the Autonomy Proposal “must serve as the sole basis for negotiation.”
“I would like to give special mention to the United States of America, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, whose efforts paved the way toward a definitive resolution of this conflict,” Mohammed VI stated.
“We also thank our friends in the United Kingdom, Spain, and especially France, whose efforts contributed to the success of this peaceful process. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to all our Arab and African brother nations that have consistently expressed their unconditional support for the Moroccan identity of the Sahara, as well as to all countries around the world that back the Autonomy Initiative.”
“With the grace and help of God, after fifty years of sacrifice, we are opening a new and victorious chapter in the process of affirming the Moroccan character of the Sahara—a step destined to permanently close the file of this conflict through a consensual solution based on the Autonomy Initiative,” the monarch declared.
“It is a true source of pride that this historic change coincides with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Green March and the 70th anniversary of Morocco’s Independence. We are living a crucial stage and a decisive turning point in modern Moroccan history: from now on, there will be a before and an after October 31, 2025. The time has come for a united Morocco, stretching from Tangier to Lagouira—a nation whose rights no one will dare violate, and whose historical borders no one will transgress.”
King Mohammed VI recalled having previously stated that, “regarding our territorial integrity, we have moved from a phase of management to a dynamic of transformation.” He noted that this dynamic, initiated in recent years, “has begun to bear fruit on all levels.”
According to the Moroccan monarch, two-thirds of UN member states now consider “the Autonomy Initiative as the only valid framework for achieving a solution to this conflict.” The King also highlighted that “recognition of the Kingdom’s economic sovereignty over its southern provinces has significantly expanded, with major global powers such as the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Spain, and the European Union deciding to encourage investment and trade with these provinces.”
“With such progress,” he concluded, “these provinces can now establish themselves within their regional context—including the Sahel and Sahara regions—as a hub of development, stability, and a central axis of economic activity.”
