VALENCIA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Javier Aguirre is returning to work in Spain. The 67-year-old Mexican has been announced as Valencia’s new head coach following the dismissal of Corberan; the task of revitalizing a team that has managed only four points from seven matches now falls to him. Aguirre has signed a contract running until the end of the season, with an automatic renewal clause should he guide Valencia to at least the Europa League.
Fresh from his stint as Mexico’s head coach at the last World Cup, this marks Aguirre’s seventh spell in Spanish football, having first arrived in the summer of 2002 when signed by Osasuna.
His managerial resume also includes spells at Atlético Madrid, Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés, and Mallorca—the latter of which he led to the Copa del Rey final. He becomes the oldest coach ever to take charge of Valencia and the 14th manager of the Peter Lim era.
