VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Fifteen innovative solar flowers have been installed at the Gozo Multi-Modal Hub in Ta’ Xħajma, marking the first such project in Europe. The installation was announced by Gozo and Planning Minister Clint Camilleri and Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia.
According to a government statement, each solar flower can produce up to 40% more energy than traditional solar panels, ensuring maximum efficiency.
Minister Camilleri said the hub represents another step toward Gozo’s 2050 environmental vision. “This energy will power electric buses linking Imġarr port with the Park & Ride facility. With this installation, we’re showing that Gozo can lead in sustainable innovation,” he said.
Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia noted that the project places Malta and Gozo on the global map as models for renewable energy and sustainability.
The €850,000 project, implemented in collaboration with Eco-Gozo and the Public Works Department, integrates clean energy with sustainable transport, aiming to reduce emissions and operational costs while promoting a self-sufficient, circular transport system.
