ZURICH (SWITZERLAND) (ITALPRESS) – A work of art that unites the identities of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. With 100 days to go until the start of the World Cup, FIFA has revealed, through an official statement written in five different languages, the seventeenth and final poster for this summer’s World Cup (the first 16 are for the 16 cities that will host the World Cup matches). For the first time in its history, the work is the result of the union of three artists: Carson Ting (Canada), Minerva GM (Mexico), and Hank Willis Thomas (United States), who have combined their talents and styles to create a poster that symbolizes the unity of the nations and the inclusiveness of the tournament, celebrating all the cultures that will participate in the competition, both on and off the pitch. “The design features a collage-like composition with a footballer as the central figure, symbolizing football’s ability to unite the world,” the statement reads.
“It reflects the energy, diversity, and shared passion for football that will characterize the most inclusive edition in the history of the competition,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who concluded: “From the start of the tournament until the final whistle, billions of fans in stadiums and on every continent will experience moments that transcend football and celebrate the meeting of cultures on a global stage.” With 100 days to go, 42 national teams have qualified, with four debutants (Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Cannavaro’s Uzbekistan) and six remaining spots, which will be awarded to the winners of the international and European play-offs (Italy are in the running and will play the semi-final in Bergamo on the 26th against Northern Ireland). This historic World Cup, which will feature 104 matches, is scheduled to kick off on June 11 at the Mexico City Stadium, while the final will be played on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
