ROME (ITALPRESS) – The innovative Club World Cup has yet to begin, but FIFA is already considering a possible increase in the number of teams taking part for the 2029 edition.
According to the Guardian, if the tournament scheduled for this summer is a success, the body that governs world football will launch consultations to evaluate a format with 48 teams, 16 more than the clubs competing from 14 June. “For the future we are very open to evaluate formats and other options, which we will discuss with the clubs and the confederations. I firmly believe in the future of this competition,” said the general secretary of FIFA, Mattias Grafström, in an interview with The Athletic last week. Inter and Juventus are the two Italian teams competing in this first edition with a 32-team format.
