LONDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Ivan Toney has been formally charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident that took place on the night of December 6 at a venue on Wardour Street, in London’s Soho district. The English striker, currently playing for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli, was charged on July 31 and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24. According to the BBC, a spokesperson for the footballer issued a brief statement: “Ivan acknowledges the charge and, while naturally shocked, looks forward to the opportunity to prove his innocence in court.” Born in 1996, Toney began his career with Northampton Town before playing for Newcastle, Peterborough, and Brentford. In 2024, he moved to Saudi Arabia, signing with Al-Ahli.
In recent weeks, the center-forward had been one of the surprises in England’s World Cup squad. During the tournament, he made two appearances: one as a starter in the 6–4 victory over France in the third-place play-off, and one as a substitute in the semi-final loss to Argentina. The legal proceedings will now take their course, with the first hearing scheduled for September 24, when the player will have the opportunity to formally respond to the charges before the London court.
