Benfica sack Bruno Lage, Mourinho set for sensational return

LISBON (PORTUGAL) (ITALPRESS) – Bruno Lage is no longer the manager of Benfica. After the home defeat in their Champions League debut against Qarabag (2-0 to 2-3), the Lisbon club has officially announced their separation from the Portuguese coach.

According to the newspaper “A Bola” website, president Manuel Rui Costa has already chosen his successor: José Mourinho, who led Benfica for a few months in 2000, then led Porto to greatness (2002-2004), and from there began a remarkable career, winning the “Treble” with Inter Milan and titles with Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Roma, among many others. Fresh from his separation from Fenerbahçe (the split with the Turkish club after their elimination in the Champions League play-offs against Benfica), the “special one” is ready to return to the helm of the “Eagles.” According to “A Bola,” discussions have not only been initiated, but are progressing rapidly, and an announcement could be made as early as today.
