VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta recorded the lowest waste generation per capita among EU member states in 2024, while making significant progress in plastic packaging recycling, according to the latest Eurostat figures published by WasteServ.
The country generated 1,092kg of waste per person, around 36 per cent below the EU average.
Meanwhile, Malta’s plastic packaging recycling rate increased to 35.1 per cent in 2024, narrowing the gap with the EU average of 42.4 per cent to 7.3 percentage points.
The improvement marks significant progress compared to 2022, when Malta’s recycling rate was 26.7 percentage points below the European average. The rate rose to 31.9 per cent in 2023.
