TUNIS (TUNISIA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Tunisia has secured an increase in its fishing quota for deep-water red shrimp in the Mediterranean, following a series of lengthy meetings and negotiations with the European Union held in Rome. These discussions took place within the framework of the 49th session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), which has been underway since October 26.

The agreement was reached after several technical meetings and negotiations between the Tunisian and European delegations, involving representatives from the relevant industry sectors and government ministries of both sides.

The GFCM, a body under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), updates the fishing quotas assigned to member countries every three years, striking a balance between the economic sustainability of the sector and the protection of marine resources and Mediterranean ecosystems.
