VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Italian furniture, lighting and fine jewellery will take centre stage in Malta as Italian Design Day 2026 gets underway. From September 28 to October 3, a selection of Italian companies will participate in DesignMT, Malta’s leading trade show in the sector, organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation.
The initiative was announced by the Italian Embassy in Valletta, led by Ambassador Valentina Setta.
The event comes as the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) marks its centenary. Founded in 1926, the agency promotes Italian companies and products in international markets.
According to the new “Purchasing Guide for Italian Design and Furniture in Malta 2026”, Italian exports of residential and living-room furniture reached €47.93 million in 2025.
Exports of kitchen systems increased from €19.94 million in 2024 to €21.50 million in 2025, reaching €10.31 million in the first five months of 2026.
Fine jewellery exports stood at €12.51 million in the first five months of 2026, compared with €18.77 million for the whole of 2025.
In Valletta, the Auberge d’Aragon will showcase creations by Gioie 1978 Milano and Izzo Carlo Jewelry. Fortress Builders will present architectural lighting solutions by iGuzzini.
On September 29, the Italian Cultural Institute will host “Re-Design. Milan Paradigm”, featuring curator Chiara Spangaro and architect Carlo Terpolilli.
Business meetings between Italian companies and Maltese professionals are scheduled for October 1.
The programme is sponsored by the Italian Embassy, the ICE Desk and the Italian Cultural Institute.
