Bayern, Kompany “Musiala’s episodes became evident after changing his treatment. There is a lot of optimism about his full recovery”

MUNICH (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – Jamal Musiala will be the big absentee from tomorrow’s match for the German Super Cup. Vincent Kompany and his Bayern Munich side will have to do without the 23-year-old German winger, who has experienced episodes of feeling unwell in his last two matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim.

It is a significant absence, but for the Bavarians’ coach, what matters is that the situation can be managed and that “there is a lot of optimism about his full recovery.” The player himself revealed on social media that he suffers from “brief, temporary absence seizures, which are treatable and caused by a neurological dysfunction.” The episodes were triggered by a change in his medication.

At his press conference, Kompany explained that the club had been aware of Musiala’s condition for some time. “This is the first time the news has become public and, obviously, many questions have arisen, but we have been dealing with his situation for some time,” the Belgian coach said. “The initial shock dates back some time. Since then, we have received much more information and made decisions with the help of the best experts. Jamal has everyone’s support. We don’t talk about it much among ourselves anymore. We have been prepared for some time, we have our protocols in place and we are very optimistic.”

There was further reassurance from Kompany, as well as from the player, who is currently following an individual training programme while adapting to the change in his treatment. “We will give him all the support we have already given him and will continue to give him. We know how to handle the situation, and we are doing it all together, including his teammates. Jamal changed something in his treatment, which is why the episodes became noticeable. Now we want to return to the situation we had before, when these episodes did not occur.”

There is also a match to focus on, and in addition to Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl will miss the game against Borussia Dortmund.

“It would be fantastic to win a trophy in Dortmund,” Kompany said. “Maybe with 50% of the fans in the stadium, the atmosphere of a final would be even more special, but winning a trophy in their home stadium would be just as great. Dortmund’s quality and strength are extremely high: there is no more difficult challenge for us in Germany.”
