VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Italy has become Malta International Airport’s most popular market for the first time since February, overtaking the United Kingdom in July.
The airport said the shift was driven by increased capacity on several routes during the summer season.
Just over a fifth of all passengers travelling through Malta International Airport in July flew to or from Italy.
Poland also recorded strong growth, with passenger numbers rising by almost 50%. It remains Malta’s best-connected market in Eastern Europe.
Germany and France ranked fourth and fifth respectively. Germany recorded a marginal decline in traffic, while France saw passenger numbers fall by 5.1%.
It was the first time this summer that both markets recorded negative growth, mainly due to reduced flight frequencies on several routes connecting Malta with the two countries.
